EUR-LEX is the main EU Law repository with access to EU legal documents, available in all 24 EU’s official languages and updated daily.
The most used filters are:
Collection type (almost always used),
Document reference (used sometimes),
Dates (almost always used),
Languages (multi-selection is necessary), and, of course, a text box for search.
PROBLEM: Users are frustrated by spending too much time on searching for a document, and then finding a specific answer within that document, as they are usually large.
USERS: Experts, using the European Parliament website is part of their job.
GOAL: come up with a better search that would include AI UX concept that would address the UX challenges outlined and respect constraints and design KPIs.
BEFORE:
A generic search, without suggestions, search memory, filters are available only on the Results page, so a user do not have much control over search.
AFTER
I think, it is important to allow 2 options: standard search and AI search. For AI search add an information about what is it and how it works.
For the standard search I added most used filters, so a user could get exact document as fast as possible.
2. Once a user activates by clicking search, they will get Popular searches suggestions and Previously saved searches by that user
3. It is possible to choose multiple options. Buttons “Choose all” and “Reset” are available for easy navigation.
4. For date filter, there will available a few options to choose from: Date range, Scope (Last 6 months, last 3 months, etc), and also a specific date. All these options will allow more control and narrow down to the needed result.
5. AI search will also include filters to narrow down the results. Once started typing in Search box, AI will offer Popular searches according to words or themes being typed. Also on the right side of suggestions will be additional filters to further narrow down search results.
AI will summarize a document and offer the full document. It will show % of confidence in the rightness of the summary, and provide a link to the source document.
On the right panel, will be placed some possibilites: To specify results in case if more specific answer is needed, or Elaborate if AI given answer is too vague. There should be an option “Read the results loud” to make sure more people can access the materials. Also a possibility to download to a device or save it in the account.
